“Alexa was a transformative coach for our students and a critical member of our coaching team. Novice teachers need a coach who can challenge and support them at the same time. Alexa leveraged her deep expertise as a teacher and leader to build powerful relationships with her advisees that helped them navigate challenges of their first steps in teaching and pushed them to become better teachers. I heard nothing but praise and appreciation from students for how much the appreciated Alexa’s support. As a member of our coaching team, she also pushed us to deepen our practice and asked questions that helped the coaching team interrogate our work in productive ways. Her passion for teaching and supporting kids came through in her drive and focus to do all we could to get better at supporting our teacher candidates.”
Dr. Chris Pupik Dean, Director of the Urban Teacher Apprenticeship Program, University of Pennsylvania
“The highlight has been building a community of learners with my team who was struggling to get on the same page. Alexa’s coaching helped me identify action steps that would bring the team together. We ended the year on a much better note than what we started.”
Kara Franklin, Principal, Russell Byers Charter School
“My goal early on was to engage and try to establish a level of trust that I could be confident in. That did occur. From there, I was hoping for guidance to navigate a new position and space. Receiving both feedback and advice confirmed and also challenged much of what I was thinking or feeling. The largest takeaway was that I will have to filter out the noise that comes in schools in order to focus on goals and steps that move us forward.”
Duane Watts, Assistant Principal, Russell Byers Charter School
Honestly I did not have any expectations, mainly because I didn’t know what I didn’t know. The experience has been transforming and worthwhile. I appreciate all the help, insight, and guidance that I didn’t even know I needed. My only wish is that I could have had this 10 years ago. The experience has exceeded my expectations, but I truly do believe you as a person made the difference. I am skeptical if another coach would have had the same impact on me, and for that, I am grateful. I can be impatient and impulsive, which both do not make for a good leader. I have learned to talk it through, vs. jumping right into saying or doing things without thinking. This trait has gotten in my way before, but with the help of talking things out with you, it is improving.
Jo Ann Moore, Principal, The Preparatory Charter School
I have appreciated the evolution of the coaching relationship. As I got more overwhelmed during the spring semester due to teaching responsibilities, Alexa shifted to hold some helpful working sessions with me that helped me feel more prepared for my job responsibilities.
